A New Year with the Prairie Wives

Happy New Year 2016It’s the first day of the new year, a time for fresh starts and of course New Year’s resolutions! This year we are keeping it short and sweet. Each of our contributing writers has shared two of their resolutions with you . It can be motivating to see how others are planning to change their lives, and I hope that after you read ours, you become inspired to set out and make 2016 the best year for you yet! If you have time, leave a few of your resolutions for us to read in the comments so we can be inspired by you too!

Bonita Blue Eyes

Going back to work has slowed my cooking way down. This year I commit to healthy meal planning and prep every weekend for the upcoming week.

I honestly have so many goals and look to the future so much, that I need a resolution to my now! I will commit in 2016 to being joyfully present to what is in front of me in as many moments as possible.

Texas Two Steppin’

Well, 2015 was a year of change for me. I gained a daughter-in-law who I have known and loved since she became my daughter,s best friend 15 years ago. Stepboy and Daughter-in-law gave The Texan and I another granddaughter, so Baby E joined Little C in November. Stepgirl became a pseudo-stepmom to her boyfriend’s daughter, so Little R, who is three and loves makeup and dressing up, joined the family. And Stepgirl is due to bring us our fourth granddaughter any moment, and we can’t wait! Add on top of this a career change after 20 years that meant I would travel across the U.S., and it is clear why my resolution is to be present and focused on my growing family every second I am home.

I always go with trying to incorporate the Pantone color of the year into my wardrobe somehow. This year my options are rose quartz and serenity. I can honestly say I don’t have any baby pink and periwinkle blue in my wardrobe now, but I can’t wait to see what pieces will speak to me. Because I have a new job, I have to commit to incorporating a few travel-friendly items into my wardrobe. However, I am going to try to work with what I have already and focus on quality over quantity to build a capsule wardrobe. In my carryon I have to fit a week’s worth of clothes for air travel, business meetings, workouts and receptions, so items that do double and triple duty are going to be a must!

Tall Girl J

I always struggle with whether or not I should set any resolutions,  I sometimes feel like they can be a bit of a set up for failure… but this leads me to my first resolution… I resolve to be more positive!  I always find myself going to the negative side of things, and caring too much about what people think or say about me. I want to try an change this and be the best person I can be! I bet if I do this, I won’t have to worry about people because, they will all love me ?

Secondly I am choosing one of the “typical” resolutions…I vow to exercise 3 times a week. I know this will help me with resolution #1. I know when I exercise I always feel much better and happier,  yes I dread it, but once it’s done it’s worth it. I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store!!

Prairie Wife

This year I will try to work on being a better listener. I am THE WORST at interrupting others. I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that a women that created her own blog can be a bit of a blabber mouth and a know-it-all! This year I am going to follow some of The Cowboy’s sage advice and “keep my mouth shut and my ears open.”

My next resolution is one I’ve made before, and I’m sure I will continue to make it over and over. I am going to breakup with my cell phone yet again. With short days and cold weather, I’ve been spending more time than usual sitting on my butt and “playing” with my phone. I know that I’ve missed out on opportunities to be more productive and active in every area of my life because I’ve had my face stuffed into my phone. So I’m renewing my commitment to keep off my phone and focus more on the life around me!

2015 was an amazing year, full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows, it was beautiful in every way. Cheers to a 2016 full of amazing opportunities, blessings galore, and fabulous memories in the making!

So I’m kinda in Tall Girl J’s camp and have been trying to be more positive for a little while now, maybe making it a new year’s resolution will help. My other resolution is to not let clutter build up again. It’s just so easy to collect stuff and place it on my dining room table where it will just sit.

As usual I will recommit to my exercise and healthy eating habit again. On Sunday I plan to freeze any left over cookies so that if I want one it will have to thaw out before I pop it in my mouth.

Good luck ladies, maybe we need a monthly check-in.

I think that just knowing you need to be more positive is the biggest step towards making that change in attitude! Freezing cookies a great idea! When I’m trying to loose weight I have a cup of tea when I’m feeling like snacking, more often then not it keeps me from eating a bunch of food I don’t really need.
