I am America

My father was a farmer’s son, one of nine children, the only one to graduate from college.
I am America.
He left his job to follow a dream, to become a small business owner with my mother by his side.
I am America.
Times were hard and money was tight. I wore hand me downs and Salvation Army clothes.
I am America.
I worked my way through college, 30 plus hours a week graveyard shift at a gas station.
I am America.
I became a teacher. I spent my salary on buying supplies for my students and shed more tears than I can count over the things I couldn’t change for them.
I am America.
I fell in love with a cowboy and married him on the wide-open prairie under a blue western sky.
I am America.
I lost our first baby, and cried for a dream that would never be.
I am America.
I am a stay at home mom of five children, living each day being the best woman, wife and mother I can.
I am America.
My sister had breast cancer at 38 and my mom was diagnosed last year.
I am America.
I dream of a future where my children have the choice to become whomever they want to be and pray how they want to pray. A future where our land is healthy and our heads are held high. Where my children live proudly in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I am America.
I am America. YOU are America. WE are America.
What makes America great is US, not the president.
I am America.
