Here’s The Truth About The Oura Ring

Posted March 19, 2024 by Prairie Wife - 2 comments

I’ve had my Oura Ring for over seven months, and I’ve had SO MANY people ask me about it that I knew I had to share my experience!

First, let me make it clear that I bought my Oura Ring with my own money, and I am in no way being compensated for this post.

Last Summer, I was struggling with my health. Not only my physical health but my mental health as well. Despite doing everything right (eating healthfully, moving often, and getting plenty of rest), I was constantly exhausted, in pain frequently, and feeling depressed and anxious.

Like many of you, I tried to do my best to keep pushing through…and put off going to the doctor. On my hunt to try and self-analyze the problem, I learned about the Oura Ring and frequently considered purchasing one. When a close friend mentioned she had one and LOVED IT, I asked her a gazillion questions and bought one for myself. #noregrets

Here’s what the official Oura site has to say about their product:

“The revolutionary smart ring. From sleep to activity to monitoring your heart rate or overnight blood oxygen level, Oura unlocks insights to help you improve your health every day.”

Think of it like an Apple Watch…but better.

With the Oura Ring, you have the ring itself and the app that goes along with it.

The Oura Ring will track not only your movement and heart rate but also your stress level, readiness and resilience, sleep, and menstrual cycle. The longer you wear your ring, the more data you will get, and you can even set personal goals to keep track of. My ring is set to help me be more productive and energetic!

My original intention when purchasing the ring was to have solid sleep data, something the Apple Watch doesn’t do. I knew I was going to bed early, so why was I always so tired?

According to the data collected from the ring, I was getting plenty of high-quality rest, and everything else it recorded showed that I was in peak health. All of this prompted me to finally go to the doctor, where we discovered that I had a baseball-sized cyst on my ovary. When it was removed, and I had recovered from surgery, I was back to feeling normal…and I was REALLY able to put the ring to the test!

Here are my thoughts:

  1. I love all the data I get from the ring and how user-friendly the app is.
  2. I think the Oura Ring accurately keeps track of your movement, and I like how you can edit/add workouts.
  3. The battery life (4 days or so) and how quickly it charges (20 minutes) is fantastic!
  4. If the ring says you need to take a rest day, take a rest day. You’ll feel better so much sooner, trust me!
  5. It’s comfortable to wear and goes with everything.
  6. If you take the time to look at your weekly data and make changes based on what you see, you could really improve your health.

A few more things to think about:

  1. The ring costs $299 – $399, depending on your chosen style and metal.
  2. There is an additional monthly fee of $5.99
  3. I still like to have my Apple Watch to receive call/text notifications and to track my Peloton workouts.
  4. To record your workouts directly into the app, go into the app and hit “Record Workout HR” at the beginning and end.
  5. Best Buy has where you can walk in, find the right size ring, and purchase from them. If they have your size you can take it home then. If not, they can deliver it right to your home.
  6. It is waterproof, but I generally take it off for the shower or washing my face.
  7. You can print out the data to share with others.

Should you buy an Oura Ring?

I love my ring and it has been a useful way for me to monitor my health. If you’re like me and you love data and goal setting, this is absolutely a product you will enjoy. If you have health concerns (like I did when I first purchased the ring), it could be a valuable tool to help you and your doctors find a solution. I’ve found that taking the time to follow the app’s health suggestions can lead to better overall physical and mental health.

I’ve recommended the ring to at least a dozen friends, and so far, all of them who now own one have found it as helpful as I did!

Please note that the data and information you get from the ring are not a replacement for an honest conversation with medical professionals.
