It’s time to announce our book for the Prairie Wife Virtual Book Club: October 2024

This monthly Virtual Book Club is all thanks to Wind City Books, an Indie Bookstore in Downtown Casper, Wyoming.

Miranda from Wind City Books can ship our book club book WHEREVER YOU LIVE, so please use the link provided below to purchase your Prairie Wife Book Club books. I strongly encourage buying your book from Wind City Books. You’ll be supporting a local Indie Bookstore, and they can quickly ship the book directly to your home. If you order now, you’ll receive it in plenty of time to finish it before book club.

If you’re feeling lucky, you can also enter the giveaway at the end of this post to WIN a copy of this month’s book. The winner will be chosen on October 13, so the book will have plenty of time to reach you before our Prairie Wife Virtual Book Chat!

So, how does The Prairie Wife Virtual Book Club Work?

It’s easy (I promise) and available to ANYONE who wants to join.

The Broken Girls by Simone St. James

Miranda and I spend a lot of time picking out Virtual Book Club books. We try to have a variety of genres so everyone has a few books they love and a few books that take them out of their comfort zone! This month, we knew we wanted to go with October’s “Halloween” vibes and find a book that was a bit spooky. I think “The Broken Girls” will be exactly what we wanted!

Here is what the publisher had to say about this book:

A journalist uncovers the dark secrets of an abandoned boarding school in this chilling suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Sun Down Motel.

Vermont, 1950. There’s a place for the girls whom no one wants—the troublemakers, the illegitimate, the ones too smart for their own good. It’s called Idlewild Hall, and local legend says the boarding school is haunted. Four roommates bond over their whispered fears, their friendship blossoming—until one of them mysteriously disappears…

Vermont, 2014. Twenty years ago, journalist Fiona Sheridan’s elder sister’s body was found in the overgrown fields near the ruins of Idlewild Hall. And although her sister’s boyfriend was tried and convicted of the murder, Fiona can’t stop revisiting the events, unable to shake the feeling that something was never right about the case.

When Fiona discovers that Idlewild Hall is being restored by an anonymous benefactor, she decides to write a story about it. But a shocking discovery during renovations links the loss of her sister to secrets that were meant to stay hidden in the past—and a voice that won’t be silenced….
