2026 Prairie Wife Retreat at The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel

Enjoy a weekend of inspiration and rejuvenation of your mind and body at the Historic Elk Mountain Hotel with Wyoming’s own Prairie Wife at the 2026 Prairie Wife Retreat!

The Elk Mountain Hotel was built in 1905 and has been proudly serving its guests for over 120 years. The Elk Mountain Hotel is situated along the banks of the peaceful Medicine Bow River and sits among the cottonwoods at the gateway to the Medicine Bow National Forest in the quaint little town of Elk Mountain, Wyoming.

Join Prairie Wife (Cathy Holman) and other like-minded women for a weekend focused on creating a life you love…and getting out of your comfort zone! This year, we’ve added the option of participating in an 11-mile hike along the Rock Creek Trail on Friday morning. Then, enjoy a meet-and-greet and dinner on the first evening, and spend the rest of the night relaxing, stargazing, making new friends, and attending a book club discussion. Saturday begins with a full-service breakfast followed by a 3-mile-long moderate hike led by Prairie Wife. This hike will take you into the Medicine Bow National Forest and will offer just the right amount of movement and beautiful views.

Enjoy lunch with Llamas back at the Elk Mountain Hotel and then take some time to freshen up and rest after your hike before you sit down for a one-and-a-half-hour workshop led by Prairie Wife. This year’s topic is “Confidence, Aging, and Owning Your Power” After the workshop, you’ll create custom jewelry with jewelry designer Laura Hunter of Pure Impressions Design.

Dinner will be followed by community time under the stars while staying warm next to a beautiful Fire Pit. End your weekend on Sunday morning with breakfast surrounded by new friends, and the option to have our event photographer, Amanda Henderson of AmandaJoPhotography, take professional headshots for you. Amanda will be along for the entire weekend, helping us capture all the special moments to ensure it’s an adventure you’ll never forget.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: No matter what stage of life you’re in, your twenties, forties, or sixties, confidence is something every woman wrestles with. It’s easy to believe you need to have everything figured out before you can truly feel secure in who you are, but the truth is that confidence grows through experience, challenges, and learning to trust yourself along the way. In this session, we’ll have an honest conversation about self-image, comparison, expectations, and the pressure women feel at every age to look a certain way, act a certain way, or follow a certain timeline. Together, we’ll talk about how to build REAL confidence, let go of unrealistic standards, and step fully into who you are right now…with strength, authenticity, and a little more grit and grace. This is about owning your story, your voice, and your place in the world, whether you’re just getting started or stepping into a whole new chapter.

FAQ About The Retreat

What book are we reading for Book Club? The book will be announced via email, along with the option to dress up with the book theme for the Friday night dinner!

How do we choose what jewelry we want for the workshop? We will email you an order form with your choices. You can then purchase your items and pay for them at that time. Laura will bring your choices to the event.

When do we get our Limited Edition Prairie Wife Retreat Gear? All preordered gear will be brought to the retreat and delivered to you upon check-in so you can wear it over the weekend.

Will the Limited Edition Prairie Wife Retreat gear be available to purchase at the event? No. But you will have the opportunity to order more at the event, and it will be shipped to your home in 4-6 weeks.

Do I have to do all the activities? No. This weekend is about what YOU need. We want you to leave feeling confident and rejuvenated. If that means you sit in your room and read instead of participating in an activity, that’s fine with us!

Can I bring my children? This retreat is not child-friendly, and even teens may find the topics boring or uncomfortable. So take this time to focus solely on yourself and leave the kids behind.

Are men welcome? This retreat is for women only.
