How To: Curl Your Hair With a Flat Iron

Posted February 5, 2016 by Prairie Wife - 5 comments

I have slowly been becoming more and more of a “girl” the older I get. Perhaps it’s because I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin…I don’t feel like I need to dress or act a certain way…I simply wear what I want. Some days it’s stay at home mom gear (sweats and hoodie), other days it’s what I call rocker mom (ripped jeans, leather and a decidedly edgy vibe), sometimes its super feminine with floral patterns and bright colors, and still yet again it could be sleek and chic (a pencil skirt, sky high heels and a sophisticated top). Those of you that follow my Pinterest Style Board have seen first hand how eclectic my tastes are! Thanks to the encouragement of Kendra Richards I’ve even learned how to apply my makeup in ways that help accentuate both my vibe and the features I like (and hide the bags under my eyes).

But my hair, well I suck at that.

Any of you that saw our Prairie Wives vs. Pinterest: Holiday Episode saw my two normal hairstyles…down and flat and messy mom bun. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to spend more time on my personal appearance. For me that meant doing my hair. So, I hit Pinterest to figure out how to do some fancy new looks (check out our Beauty Board for inspiration).

After a few moments of browsing, I came across a video for how to use a flat iron to curl. When I tried to follow it, it was an epic fail…but I wasn’t about to give up! I loved the look of the loose curls that a flat iron makes. So with Prairie Wife grit and grace, I watched video after video and tried over and over until at last, I finally got it!

I invited TallGirlJ over and talked her through it, and she got it right away. We agreed we needed to share this wisdom with the world so without wasting any more of your time, here it is.

How To: Curl Your Hair with a Flat Iron

See how easy it is? Put your hair in the flat iron (starting at the roots) turn it towards your head once, twice, and pull the flat iron down to the ends of your hair.

Let me know how this worked for you, and share your pics with us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

I have tried several “Flat Iron Curls” youtube tutorials, and I haven’t been able to get any of them to work on my hair…UNTIL NOW! Thanks, Prairie Wife! I had beautiful “beach-y” curls that lasted for 2 whole days!! So easy, and I love the results! Will do this once or twice a week, I’m thinking!…Maybe I’ll get brave enough to post a pic! But…to PraireWife readers….TRY IT! You won’t regret it!. 🙂 PS-A smaller flat iron works better that a bigger one. 🙂
